Rolls-Royce Motor Cars have never really been what we would consider agile or sporty. Sure, they are laden with luxury and very wonderful materials, but driving most of them could be compared to taking the helm of a small boat. The company aims to change that with their “Black Badge” series of cars. In this issue we spend some considerable time at the wheel of the Wraith Black Badge to determine if a driving enthusiast might finally enjoy driving a Rolls-Royce. Speaking of performance variants of existing models, Audi put the heat in the new A5 to create the RS5. The twin-turbo V6 delivers 444hp and 443 lb-ft of torque but is that enough to make this attractive coupe exciting to drive or is this just another high-output sterile car? Also in this issue is coverage of this year’s SEMA event and a drive of Nissan’s 370Z Heritage Edition.
In probably the most diverse issue we have ever had, in this issue of Auto Exotica we literally fall in love with the Audi TT RS, This baby supercar can keep up with just about anything else on the road. Flip to the article to find out just how good it is. Mini isn’t so “mini” anymore and to prove that point we head out in the largest Mini to date, the Countryman, while comparing it to something a little more “petite”. Then we take Ford’s newest “Raptor” to the world’s largest fly in, AirVenture. Yes, it’s a truck, but it certainly has it’s own blend of performance. To top off this issue we spend a few days with BMW’s luscious M3.
We spent most of this issue going toplessr. From the muscular and brawny Mercedes Benz C63 AMG S Cabriolet to the quirky, yet still fun Fiat 124 Spider we enjoy the sunshine and unique engine sounds of the summer. Don’t worry, all of our writes kept their clothes on. Keeping up with the C63 AMG we sample the powerful BMW M550i. It’s not a true “M” car from BMW but it is certainly no slouch! Lexus offers the “F” treatment on their four-door GS and we can’t help but go a little silly with this rear-drive Japanese muscle car. We also slow down a bit to experience the sexy Volvo S90 sedan.
Lexus has, for several years now, been working on creating a true performance vehicle. The LFA was the launchpad and their “F” models have continued the trend. However, none of these forebears have been able to find the right blend of Lexus attributes mixed with the desired performance…until now. Check out our full review of the LC500 in this issue. Also in this issue is Ford’s hottest hatchback, the Focus RS along with BMW’s latest 7-Series and a look at the Mazda Miata RF.
